100% Recycled System
Buckinghamshire New University features an interior vertical garden installed using a fully recycled, closed-loop system. The wall operates with continuously circulated recycled water and is constructed from 100% recycled textile materials.
The installation uses a no-soil fabric-based hydroponic system, allowing plants to grow without traditional soil. Water and nutrients are delivered directly through the fabric , reducing weight and simplifying maintenance compared to conventional planted systems. The design is bespoke, adaptable to any shape or space.
A wide range of plant species is arranged in organic forms, avoiding straight lines to reflect natural growth patterns. The vertical garden introduces planting into an indoor communal space, where access to green environments has been shown to support wellbeing and mental health for students and staff.
